CCGS Hudson - Fall 2002

Scientific of Survey Objectives:

  • Conduct surveys for the Atlantic Zonal Monitoring Program: CTD, phytoplankton and zooplankton survey on 5 transects across Scotian Shelf and in Cabot Strait, the Laurentian Channel and Emerald Basin
  • ADCP and Multifrequency Sonar measurements
  • Equipment Tests: MVP, Vertical Opening/Closing Nets, Laser Optical Plankton Counter (LOPC), VOPC
  • MVP surveys of AZMP sections
  • Service/deploy/recover Seahorse and engineering moorings
  • Turn around 2 scientific moorings at Shelf edge, near Halifax line: 2000m, and 300m.

Voyage Procedures and Station Pattern Required:

LEG 1:

  • Tests in Bedford Basin
  • MVP Halifax and Louisbourg Line and other selected sections
  • Vertical Net tows / LOPC profiles at selected stations
  • VOPC profiles
  • Acoustic calibrations
  • Recover Seahorse mooring and engineering mooring

LEG 2:

  • Hfx Station 2 (HL2): CTD, water sampling, ring nets
  • Deploy and Recover Seahorse mooring near HL2
  • Recover 2000m scientific Mooring (site B)
  • Recover 300m scientific mooring and guard buoys (site C)
  • Redeploy 300m scientific mooring and guard buoys
  • Re-deploy 2000m scientific mooring (site B)
  • Stations: VOPC profiles – CTD + Water samples – Ring nets - at each station
  • Light meter at 1 daytime station each day
  • BIONESS tows in Roseway Basin, the Gully and Emerald Basin
  • Vertical Multinet tows on selected stations
